Save On Home Renovation Projects - Take Advantage Of Rebates!

Rebates:

When it comes to mechanical systems, there can be a lot of rebates available. Moving to a more energy efficient furnace will save you money on your power and gas bill, and you get a credit for putting it in. It's a win-win if you're looking to upgrade your house!

Check with your local utility company, building department, or a mechanical contractor to find out what options may be available to you and what is required to be eligible. These rebates can extend beyond only mechanical systems and into anything that makes your home more energy efficient. This includes things like windows and insulation. Note that a lot of times, in order to qualify for the rebates, the work must be completed by a licensed professional.

A few years ago, my wife and I purchased a small house that was intended to be used as a rental. It had no gas run to the house and was heated by inefficient electric baseboard heat. Gas was located in the street, but the house just had never been hooked up. After pricing out work to have a 95%+ efficient furnace installed, plus duct work, a thermostat and anything needed for the system to work, our total cost out of pocket was only around $500 after the credit/rebate given to us by our local power provider! It saved big time on the power bill cost and hugely added to the value of the house.

Long story short: be sure to take advantage of those rebates out there! If you don't, you're just leaving money on the table.
